Obituary for Mimi Johns

Mimi JohnsMildred "Mimi" Lee Kirchdorfer Johns, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and dear friend to many passed away Monday, May 1, 2017 in Louisville, KY.

Mimi was born March 2, 1929 in Louisville and grew up at Cedar Strohme, the Kirchdorfer family home. She is an alum of St. Francis of Assisi, Sacred Heart Academy and the University of Kentucky and received her Master’s in Education from Spalding University. She shared her love for children as an elementary school teacher at the parishes of St. Leonard, St. Joseph and St. Elizabeth.

Committed to social justice, Mimi was an advocate for positive change in her local community. Her adventurous spirit and love of the natural world inspired her passion for gardening, hiking, boating and world travel.

Mimi is survived by her children; Cliff Johns (Olga), Victoria Moll (Mike), Jinny Cornett, Gail Smith (Bill), Chris Johns (Suszi), and Patricia Rudd. Grandchildren; Michael (Joy), Vanessa, Karissa, Celia, Abby, Jordan, Sami, Reece, Orion, Olivia and Cosmo, and great-grandchild, Lukas. She is also survived by loving extended family members.

She will be greatly missed by her beloved cousin, Rosemary Dowd, along with the rest of “The Girls”: Joan, Sis, Gloria, Mary and Dottie, and countless other dear friends.

A mass will be held on Friday, May 12, 2017 at 1:00 PM at St. Williams Catholic Church at 1226 W Oak St, with burial at Calvary Cemetery. All are welcome to join us at the Peterson-Dumensil House for a celebration of Mimi's life at 4:30 PM.

Donations in Mimi's memory can be made to St. Williams Church, the Parklands of Floyds Fork or Bay Area Outreach and Recreation Program.

The family asks that you hold your children close, bask in the sunshine every day and leave things better than you found them. This is what Mom would wish for you.
