Day 6 Recap: Today we spent the day in La Antigua, Guatemala. The original capital of Guatemala, but the city was destroyed in the 1773 earthquake and the capital was moved to Guatemala City. We enjoyed the Spanish colonial architecture and ruins. We witnessed their strong Catholic faith and traditions touring the local churches, and of course, ate some delicious Guatemalan food. We spend the afternoon in San Antonio Aguas Caliente, Antigua with the Ninos con Bendicion community.
We had a typical Guatemalan lunch of pepian, and learned about the traditional Mayan dress and dances. Finally, we learned how to make authentic tortillas. It was another full day in Guatemala, where we were once again welcomed with open arms by strangers. It challenges us to look at how we can invite others into our lives, and how we can let this experience and the message of hospitality sink into our lives and hearts.
