Transcribers Needed to Move St. Louis Cemetery Project Forward
The St. Louis Cemetery Project is supported by Epiphany’s 2024 Annual Grant. This project aims to recognize, name, and mark the 1,633 Black
Catholics are buried in two unmarked fields in St. Louis Cemetery on Baxter Avenue in Louisville. The grant from Epiphany will be used to
document at least 20 veterans from the U.S. Civil War and World War I. A researcher has been contracted to find and digitize service records and
pensions stored at the National Archives in Washington D.C. Volunteers are needed to transcribe the cursive handwriting from these documents
into a Word processing file. These records will be used to apply for military headstones from Veterans Affairs.
