Recently, Epiphany’s Environmental Concerns Committee adopted a new name; we are now the Creation Care Team of Epiphany.
Why the change? As we approach the 10th anniversary of the release of Pope Francis’ ground-breaking encyclical, Laudato Si (On Care for Our Common Home), it’s an appropriate time to reinforce his call to prevent activities that harm our earth and further activities that restore its wonders and ensure its future.
Emphasizing creation care reflects a more active approach. In addition, around the U.S. and the world, Laudato Si’ has generated numerous committed teams intent on responding to the environmental crisis we are facing. “Creation Care Team” is how these groups have titled themselves and renaming our team puts us in solidarity with them. It’s a new name for us but our goal remains the same – helping our parishioners live in harmony with God’s creation and serving as faithful stewards of the abundance God has provided.
